Aly & AJ

By: Nicole Juliette Hetlyn

Pop sisters, Aly & AJ, are currently on tour promoting new music and striking up all kinds of nostalgia. With the release of their EP, Sanctuary, the Michalka sisters have made a strong return back into the music scene with catchy tunes and soul searching lyrics. Of the tour and EP, Aly explains, “Shows are a sanctuary for our fans. We find a lot of peace and healing comes with talking to them while on tour... Hearing their stories about how they came to our music or how it impacted their life - it really touched us and we wanted to give something back.” The tour is also teaming up with The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ young people. They had a donation bin and awareness booth at this stop (and will at the rest), which I applaud them for doing. I love seeing bands genuinely care about their fans and interact with them, plus standing up for/with others.

The setlist was a perfect blend between old and new favorites. I was so excited to hear “Potential Breakup,” “Chemicals React,” and “Rush.” Of course, I also loved hearing some new favorites like “Sanctuary,” and “Take Me.” This was my first time seeing Aly & AJ live, and they didn’t disappoint. I’m excited that they are back, and looking forward to seeing them again!
