Kinky Boots (Broadway)

by Nicole Juliette Hetlyn

I have always been very passionate about theatre.  I was in several musicals when I was younger (Grease being my favorite), drama classes in high school, and playwriting courses in college.  I have seen several shows on Broadway - Wicked and Phantom of the Opera are my top two - and am always looking to go to another show.  When Brendon Urie announced that he was joining the cast, I instantly bought tickets with two of my friends.  To be honest, I didn't know anything about this specific show.  I decided not to research the show or cast; I wanted to got into the show blindly to truly experience it.  Little did I know, this was about to be one of my new favorite shows and one of the most emotional, enjoyable shows to date.

*Note: There are no photos from the show, since taking photos is prohibited during a performance.  The cast graciously signed Play Bills, so please enjoy some photos from that experience.

The cast was phenomenal, and the show brought me to tears.   "Red is the color of sex and fear and danger and signs that say, Do. Not. Enter. All my favorite things in life."  Charlie helps Lola create red Kinky Boots, in order to save his family business.  There is so much to the story though.  Love, self acceptance, accepting others.  J. Harrison Ghee starred at Lola, and brought every single emotion out of me.  His emotion truly touched my heart, and his fierce sass gave me such joy as Lola.  This was Brendon Urie's first time on Broadway, but he was an amazing Charlie Price.  I've always wanted to see Urie on Broadway.  His music is very theatrical, and he exceeded every expectation that I had.  I would definitely love to see Urie on Broadway again, he was so in his element.

The chemistry between the entire cast was outstanding.  We were able to meet the cast after the show, and they were also so sweet as well!  I highly recommend checking out Kinky Boots on Broadway.  You will leave this song feeling so inspired .  This show fills you with so much love, joy, hope, ansd confidence.  Also, for all of you wondering... yes, he makes those high heels work!
